Description

A red-morphed Eastern screech owl has found the perfect perch, as he sits and waits for nightfall. He is very well camouflaged in this little hollow of the tree trunk.

This species is relatively common in Eastern North America, and is native to most wooded environments of its distribution. More so than any other owl in its range, it has adapted well to manmade development, although it frequently avoids detection due to its nocturnal habits. Photographed in central Ohio.
