This young buck is one of five that visited my back yard one November morning. They were taking turns at sparring with each other, testing their strength and dominance, as it was during the rutting season. This buck took a break from the competition and wandered across the yard, and stopped at this pine tree, which is only about 15 feet from my back porch, where I was photographing. I was amazed that he stood in one spot for several minutes, watching me as I watched him! I added painterly textures to my original photo to achieve the desired painted canvas portrait appearance.
I look forward to November each year, as that is the only time I see the Bucks out and about. The rest of the year I usually see does, fawns, and yearlings. The white-tailed deer is a species belonging to the Cervidae family, the Capreolinae subfamily, and the genus Odocoileus. Photo image captured in central Ohio, USA.
