Description
I saw this beautiful Sapho Longwing butterfly resting on the leaf of a tropical plant, with bold, colorful flowers in the background, making a lovely contrast. A digitally altered, purple abstract version of this image is also available in my Butterfly Collection. Photographed in the Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus, Ohio.
Heliconius sapho, the Sapho longwing, is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It was described by Dru Drury in 1782. It is commonly found from Mexico southward to Ecuador.
