This original wildlife photo art features a portrait of a great horned owl, in all his splendor, surrounded by the subtle glow of the evening sun reflecting off the trees in the background. I chose to use black and white to bring out the wonderful detail in the owl's feathers in this image. The color version of this photo is also available in my gallery. This image was captured in Licking County, Ohio. The owl is a symbol of wisdom and keen perception. This image would make beautiful wall art for the nature lover or any room in your home or office. The great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), also known as the tiger owl (originally derived from early naturalists' description as the "winged tiger" or "tiger of the air") or the hoot owl, is a large owl native to the Americas. It is an extremely adaptable bird with a vast range and is the most widely distributed true owl in the Americas. The great horned owl is generally colored for camouflage.
